Meet the "Young Casters"

ADELAIDE "AGS" GALDUR

Ok, so I’m supposed to tell you about myself and the most important thing about me is that- oh no! I am so late to meet Toby Finn and Vivey! Ok, really and I mean REALLY quickly I have curly hair and freckles and the coolest friends in the whole world.

Who even needs to write a bio for podcast club anyways? That’s the club I’m in right now in school- OH! I am in high school! It’s pretty cool. Art class is pretty fun with Harper and lunch isn’t so bad. Lunch reminds me I am SO LATE, I am supposed to be meeting Vivey and Toby Finn for coffee at the diner which has really good pancakes and I firmly believe pancakes are a valid food for any meal. How do you end these things? Um, Ok bye!

TOBY FINN

Age: 17

Pronouns: he/him

TOBY FINN! He’s just the type of guy where you gotta use his full name. It’s not required or anything, it’s just a fact of life. This seventeen-year-old lad got his start at Youngvale High on the football team, but he’s doing other stuff now, like Podcast Club! He’s popular, and friends with just about everyone, but his besties are Vivey and Ags.

He’s also very partial to Sam, the theatre tech lead, and may or may not have joined up because of her… Toby lives with his two sports dads, doesn’t own a car, and has a pretty darn good singing voice. College plans? Uhhhh, great question! He’ll worry about that later.

VIVEY ORTIZ

Age: 18

Pronouns: she/her

Vivey Ortiz, or Genevieve if you want to be obnoxiously formal, is a recent transplant to Youngvale from the "Big City". 18 year old Vivey is completing her senior year at Youngvale High - an academic overachiever, Vivey has a planner notebook for every instance. She is often a faculty favorite, much to the frustration of her rival Adalyn Sharp.

Joining Podcast Club was an unexpected extracurricular for Vivey, but the dream team of Ags and Toby Finn couldn't be passed up. While demanding jobs keep her parents out of town frequently, the high expectations are never too far away. But the empty house doesn't bother her too much. She had been convinced she had her five-year plan in place, but the slow-paced, small town of Youngvale has turned into a whirlwind of academic rivalry, life-changing friendships, and possible growing affection for a boy that reminds her of 'home'.

Sam payne

Age: 17

Pronouns: she/her

A long-standing member of the tech side of the theatre department, but her real love is film, and backstage is as close as she can get with the meagre offerings of Youngvale High. She’s grounded, not strictly one of the popular crowd but also isn’t automatically drawn in by the popular crowd nonsense.

Anyone paying attention will have spotted that her eyes light up whenever a certain boy is around, but having a crush is an easy accusation to deny; after all, who doesn't love Toby Finn?

Harper Hamilton

Age: 17

Pronouns: she/they

One of the school’s withdrawn arty kids, known for wearing heavy black eyeliner and thrift-store clothes, and for being a talented painter. Mean-kid jabs from the popular crowd fall on deaf ears as they appear to give no fucks about that kind of thing. Oh, and she’s not human, I guess.

Harper can often be found hanging around the art rooms at school and is usually a bit of a loner, but while she's extremely hard to read at times, one can only make logical leaps about her motivations as she seeks out Ags with increasing regularity.

Greyson tune

Age: 17

Pronouns: he/him

Moved to town from the city over the summer and is a quickly rising musical star at Youngvale High. He is among the former-city-kid popular crowd, but hasn’t yet hitched his wagon to any of the prominent school cliques, preferring instead to remain open and friendly with everyone.

He's a reliable attendee of whatever social gathering is taking place and he doesn't descriminate by popularity, though it seems like Vivey in particular has definitely caught his attention. Were you to follow his gaze at any particular moment of the school day, you'd likely find it set upon her.

Adalyn Sharp

Age: 17

Pronouns: she/her

The queen bitch of the school. She’s top of her class in every class, and her moderately wealthy parents spare no expense in additional tutors and resources to ensure she is well prepared for her ivy league trajectory.

She takes the comparable academic success of Vivey as a personal insult and the pair engage in ongoing warfare of passive aggression, snide comments, and trying to outdo each other.

Farell Ward

Pronouns: he/him

Captain of the Football Team. Sports star, by local standards at least. He competed for best athlete in school with Toby Finn, until Toby decided to quit the team. Farell lives in Northwood with his rich parents. He's a nice enough guy, certainly not the same brand of obnoxious asshole that some others in his social circle might be, just a rich/popular kid thriving in obliviousness.

Danny Biers

Age: late 20's

Pronouns: he/him

“Techie” Media and computer technician - keeps the tech and media systems working across the school. Former student and pretty chill, shows up here and there all the time, is one of the few very tech savvy members of staff. Excited about media and technologies and is the leader of “Podcast Club”. He has a thousand jobs and is much shorter than he first appears. And also blue.

Coach Ben Finn

Age: mid-40's

Pronouns: he/him

A man doing best to assemble a reputable football team despite rarely having a significant pool of talent to choose from. He also happens to be Toby’s father and is totally fine and supportive of Toby's decision to quit the football team to pursue other stuff.

One of two "Coach Finns" in town, he is husband to Lance Finn who works at the middle school over the road. Toby calls Ben "Pops" and Lance "Dad".

Principal Gloria Epps

Age: late 40's

Pronouns: she/her

Principal of Youngvale High School who looks perpetually tired, possibly of children. She has a picture of a Spanish beach town on her office wall and it is common knowledge of her dream to retire there. She wants to leave a legacy of greatness from her tenure at Youngvale High but this is a tall order since nothing ever changes in this town. Regardless, she persists, leaping at any opportunity to rise in the ranks of notable High School Principals, which is for sure probably a thing that anyone else in the world cares about.

Sheriff Hogar Lokdak

Age: late 40's (probably?)

Pronouns: he/him

Fractal Sheriff of Youngvale, it's Lokdak's job to upkeep the laws that all fractalites are bound to, investigate when apparent fractal crimes have been committed, and try to generally keep the peace among the fractalite community. He works closely with Sheriff Higsey, who is the human sheriff in town, and together they enforce the law for all parts of Youngvale.

He doesn't typically work with children and it's fair to assume he doesn't love it.

Effie Dade

Age: early 40's

Pronouns: she/her

Proprietor of “Effie’s Diner” in downtown Youngvale. Has been running the place for 10 years or so, but there’s always been a diner in that spot in town. Friendly face who everyone knows, and she manages to remember every one who walks through her doors. Has a soft spot for weirdos and underdogs.

Effie is also the Warden of the Fractal Window; she keeps an eye on the gateway into the Fractal and sees who comes and goes.

Sheriff Don Higsey

Age: early 60's

Pronouns: he/him

An even-tempered balding man who has been sheriff in Youngvale for a long time and has seen just about everything. He’s an institute of the town at this point and he can generally be found at Effie’s Diner when off duty, partaking of key lime pie.

Sheriff Higsey is aware of the fractalite world, but regards it with a kind of light-hearted obliviousness due to his complete faith that Sheriff Lokdak has probably got everything in hand.

Lance Finn

Age: late 40's

Pronouns: he/him

Works as the soccer coach at Youngvale middle school, a literal stone's throw (across the street) from the high school where his husband Ben works and his son Toby attends. Small towns rarely have much breadth of sporting talent but in the case of the middle school soccer team, this is especially so. The walls of the school are lined with participation trophies.

Toby calls Lance "Dad" and Ben "Pops".

Jethro

Local pomeranian and terror of newspaper deliverers and cyclists alike, Jethro is frequently found unattended and at large in the suburban streets of Soyo; aka South Youngvale. His shrill bark can inflict migraines, some say, up to six miles away, and no matter where he is or what he's doing, he always seems to know when Ags is doing her paper route and will rush out to make a nuisance of himself immediately.

For the record, he can swim.
